Series synopsis
When the humans’ twelve planets are destroyed by a Cylon invasion force, the survivors flee in 220 spaceships following the Galactica – a gigantic battlestar spaceship – in a search for a “thirteenth” planet.

The Battlestar Galactica series was originally set to be produced by Michael Lesslie, Kerry Williamson, Sam Esmail, and Chad Hamilton. Laster Simon Kinberg took over production of the series. Scripts were originally penned by Michael Lesslie (Macbeth) and Kerry Williamson (What Happened to Monday) before Simon Kinberg and Dylan Clark (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) took over the writing duties.

Producer/Writer Simon Kinberg confirms Battlestar Galactica series is continuing to move forward. January 7, 2022
In a recent interview, writer/producer Simon Kinberg confirmed that the highly anticipated Battlestar Galactica series was indeed moving forward.
“We are in the process of going out to directors and the hope is to attach a director and start prepping the movie this year. It’s a megillah, humongous film and the prep will be a very long prep period so I would imagine even if we attached a director today it would take six, nine months to prep this movie properly. So at the earliest, we’d be shooting at the end of this year. We’d probably be shooting at the beginning of next year. Time will tell who the director is and then you or someone else will tell who the director is.”
Kinberg also revealed that the series would exist in a shared universe with the upcoming Battlestar Galactica movie.
“In terms of the situation with Sam and the show, I can’t say too much about it other than there is synergy between the two enterprises and constant communication between us. We’ve become close and been having a really good time together and there will be, for lack of a better phrase and it’s an overused phrase, a shared universe.”

The new NBCUniversal streaming service that the company said Tuesday would be called Peacock will launch in April 2020 with original content that includes series reboots from the NBCU library among its fare. That list includes the return of a sci-fi classic: a new Battlestar Galactica, billed as an original series from Mr. Robot and Homecoming executive producer Sam Esmail.
