First came Squid Game, then the MOMO challenge. Today parents have another fear-based phobia to bestow on their precious little ones – hugs with death threats whispered in their ears by a cute, blue teddy bear.

Huggy Wuggy sounds sweet and looks like a child-friendly character but it’s anything but. Huggy Wuggy looks like this:

The fanged blue teddy bear is featured in the horror-themed game, Poppy Playtime, which terrifyingly appropriate, is set inside an abandoned toy factory. As his names implies, Huggy Wuggy likes to give hugs – while singing about how he is going to kill you.

Poppy Playtime is an adult based game, but the toy factory theme and “cute” game characters are making their way into social media and gaming platforms which of course, is being picked up by children. The fear at a school in Australia prompted officials to issue this terror-stricken warning to all parents.

“Kids as young as five have been playing games in the playground hugging each other and whispering frightening lyrics such as ‘hugging you to death’ and ’till you breathe your last breath’, leaving many upset.”

So, yeah. Kids are giving each other hugs while whispering creepy things in their ears because, well, that’s what Huggy Wuggy does. One parent noted,

“I know from chatting with one principal this morning that some children are quite terrified.”

So contrary to popular opinion, the kids are not alright. So parents, find your youngin’ and give them a much-needed hug (while whispering in their ear about, ahem, how much you love them).
