A fourth Jurassic Park is a go with a confirmed release date of June 13, 2014.  Yeah, 18 months to crank out a effects-laden Jurassic Park is not much time.  The movie will be made in 3D of course.  Steven Spielberg had previously announced the film was in development at the 2011 Comic-Con. Spielberg has been confirmed as producing the fourth movie, although there’s no word yet as to whether he’ll handle directing duties, or whether Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger) will remain at the helm following 2001’s Jurassic Park III.

The screenplay was written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the team that gave us Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and was turned in to Universal Pictures this week.

Kathleen Kennedy, producer of the original Jurassic Park, explained the difficulty in deciding whether to create the fourth movie:

“We have a very high bar for ourselves because we’re just like the audience. We don’t want to make the movie if there’s not a reason to make the movie.”
