Original Batmobile car from the Batman television series

The Batmobile in a scene from the 1960's Batman seriesThe Batmobile is a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car built in Italy by the Ford Motor Company and based on the stock Lincoln Mark II automobile.  It was bought in 1965 by legendary car customizer George Barris for only $1 (Barris also made the famous Munsters car and the Beverly Hillbillies truck). Barris spent $15,000 to upgrade the car over 15 days to turn it into the Batmobile that was used in the ABC television series, Batman, which ran from 1966 to 1968 and starred Adam West.  The car came from Ford with the iconic clear plastic canopy and huge black tailfins but Barris added the parachutes, car phone, and smoke machines.  Barris held onto the car until he sold it at the Barrett Jackson auction (near Scottsdale  Arizona) on Saturday (1/19/13) to an Arizona man, Rick Champagne.  Champagne told Reuters:

“I really liked Batman growing up and I came here with the intention of buying the car. Sure enough, I was able to buy it. That was a dream come true.”

Champagne says the car will go into the living room of his home.
