Marvel Studios’ captivating new series WandaVision, which premieres in late 2020 (December?) on Disney+, just unveiled its first trailer on ABC’s broadcast of the 72nd Primetime Emmy® Awards. Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, WandaVision marks the first series from Marvel Studios streaming exclusively on Disney+.
Created by Jac Schaeffer and based on the Marvel Comics characters Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch and Vision, WandaVision is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with other films in the franchise. The events of the series take place after the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame.
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprise their roles as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch and Vision, respectively, from the film series. Teyonah Parris, Kat Dennings, Randall Park, and Kathryn Hahn also star. By September 2018, Marvel Studios was developing a number of limited series for Disney+, centered on supporting characters from the MCU films such as Maximoff and Vision, with Olsen and Bettany expected to return. Schaeffer was hired in January 2019, the series was officially announced that April, and Shakman joined in August. Filming began in Atlanta, Georgia in November 2019. In March 2020, production was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was expected to resume that July in Los Angeles.
WandaVision is scheduled to premiere in December 2020, and will consist of six episodes. It will be the first series in Phase Four of the MCU.
WANDA AND VISION HAVE TIED THE KNOT
The trailer opens on a happy note — Wanda and Vision are just married! Arriving back at home after their big day, they start settling into their daily routines together, with Vision heading off to work. And thanks to a wave from Wanda’s hand, gone is his synthezoid appearance and he takes on a human one.
Everything’s not as black and white as it appears — literally. That color scheme is quickly replaced by a technicolor one as we’re quickly moving through the decades with Wanda and Vision. Pay attention, and you’ll notice styles spanning decades of television.
There’s going to be some trick-or-treating in WandaVision, and both Wanda and Vision are dressed for the occasion. Not only that but their costumes are very familiar to Marvel fans!
What’s a classic sitcom-style show without some neighbors popping by to help sir up trouble? Kathryn Hahn’s “nosy neighbor” was revealed at 2019’s D23 Expo, and in addition to her, Debra Jo Rupp and Fred Melamed also make appearances as well.
EVERYTHING IS NOT WHAT IT SEEMS
Wanda and Vision might be living an idyllic suburban life but something’s clearly brewing just outside.
