Netflix says The Witcher: Blood Origin will be set 1,200 years before the adventures of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer on The Continent. It’s set to be a six-part limited series. Here’s what the showrunners say:

“Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”

The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski has always hinted that much of the story is yet to be told. The Witcher writer, Declan de Barra agrees.

“A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books – What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans? I’ve always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery, and culture flourish right before that fall… The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher”

Meanwhile, Season 2 of The Witcher plans to resume filming on August 17, 2020 in England. Filming had been shut down since mid-March due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the precautions put in place across the film and television industries. As of today, there’s still no release date.

In addition, as previously announced, The Witcher is getting its own anime film called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Studio Mir (the team behind Legend of Korra) will animate the series. Hopefully this will make the wait for season 2 less painful.
