Atari was founded in Sunnyvale, California in 1972 by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney, as an entity for their newly-created Computer Space, the world’s first commercially available arcade video game. The name “Atari” came from a term in the game GO, that referenced a position of stones in the game that were in danger of being captured by an opponent. One of their earliest games was the legendary Pong console game. Atari products helped define the electronic game industry from the 1970’s through the mid-1980’s.
