Craig Evans, 24-year-old swimming coach from the UK, was feeling a little frisky when he texted his girlfriend asking if she would have sex with him “skin on skin” and whether she liked it “fast or slow”. His unfamiliarity with his BlackBerry Smartphone allowed the sexts (there were multiple text messages) to be sent to all contacts in his contact book – including his immediate family (sorry Mom). To cap off the humiliation, the text went to two teenage swimming students who, unaware of what was going on, reported the “pervert” to the authorities who promptly arrested the man. End result – Mr. Evans was sentenced to prison for two counts of “inciting a child to engage in sexual activity”.
The story unfolded in court this week when his attorneys went to the Court of Appeals in London to argue his case once again. It is conceivable that Mr. Evans used a desparate “shotgun” approach in an attempt to find a date but the court concluded that it was “difficult to conclude that he was targeting anyone”. The judge suspended the sentence and freed Evans after 18 months in prison.
