Facebook’s R&D department rolled out their third app this week and this one shows promise – if they can pry off Twitter’s death grip over the second screen market.
The new app is called Venue and it’s built to engage fans during live events. It works much like Twitter and its hashtags fans use to offer commentary during events. The difference with Venue – special commentators are used to add expert commentary during live events.
Commentators will provide their own take on the event and pose interactive questions and polls for fans. It may also offer quick, moderated chats during specific moments in the event.
Facebook will first test Venue with today’s NASCAR’s Food City presents the Supermarket Heroes 500 race.
“As NASCAR makes its return to action over the coming weeks, Venue will provide users with a unique and exciting way to connect with fellow race fans from around the globe – all from the safety and comfort of their own homes.”
