Although the pilot of Gilligan’s Island was filmed in Hawaii, the rest of the series was filmed on this set. The set, built in 1964, was located on CBS Studio Center’s (old Republic Studios) back lot, about 800 yards from the freeway. Noise on the set was often a problem (filming had to start after morning traffic subsided). The lagoon water is only 4-feet deep and would become stagnant and had to be changed and treated periodically. The large building in the top left is Soundstage 3 (sometimes accidentally visible in the background of lagoon shots). Hut scenes were filmed inside the sound stages, usually Soundstage 2. Today the lagoon is a parking lot.
