
About the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie.
In 2020, it was announced that Patty Jenkins (Arrested Development, Entourage, Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984) would direct a film titled Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. The film will “introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy”.
The name “Rogue Squadron” is the division of Rebel Alliance starfighters led by Luke Skywalker.
Jenkins has said the film will borrow from the Rogue Squadron game and books but will be an original story.
It will be the first Star Wars movie from Lucasfilm since 2019’s Rise of Skywalker.

We recently reported on the production delays for Star Wars Rogue Squadron while Patty Jenkins “juggles her schedule”. New reports however, say the delay is due to significant creative differences between Jenkins and Lucasfilm. According to reports, Jenkins and Lucasfilm differ over the film’s script, which is being written by Matthew Robinson. The source also claims Lucasfilm is placing heavy restrictions on the production too.

Disney’s Star Wars: Rogue Squadron will not being production in 2022 as planed. Lucasfilm says director Patty Jenkins must juggle directing duties while figuring out her future schedule. Sources say she is still committed to the film. Thus far, the December 22, 2023 release date has not official changed.

Speaking to API, filmmaker Patty Jenkins says Star Wars: Rogue Squadron will user in a new era for Star Wars.
“The Michael Stackpole books and the video games and all of the ‘Rogue Squadron’ books, there’s an incredible history that’s really important to honor. And yet, it must be brought to a new age, because we have to tell a new story with it and so you’re trying to blend the best of everything and make it the great fighter-pilot movie, which I’ve always wanted to make, as well. It’s a big brew of things that you’re trying to put together and still try to keep a simple story.”

In a surprise twist, it was announced today that relative newcomer Matthew Robinson (Monster Trucks, Dora and the Lost City of Gold) will be writing the script for the next stage in the Star Wars saga: Rogue Squadron. It’s an interesting choice given Robinson’s varied career.
