The bathypelagic zone, also known as the midnight zone, is the portion of the ocean that lies between 1000 and 4000 meters below the surface. It is the second deepest zone of the ocean and is characterized by complete darkness, high pressure, and cold temperatures. Despite these harsh conditions, a variety of unique and specialized organisms have adapted to life in this zone, including bioluminescent creatures such as lanternfish, viperfish, and anglerfish.
