Lincoln, Nebraska television station KLKN captured, and aired on live television, video of a flashing, triangular UFO hovering for over 45 minutes on the morning horizon. Just before 6 a.m. on Sept. 4th, 2013 KLKN’s high definition “Towercam” gave Channel 8’s Morning Meteorologist Sean McMullen a surprising view of the hovering UFO. McMullen told viewers:
“I have never seen anything like this before. I even say that several times while I’m on air describing the object, because I want to let people know even I don’t know what this is, so I can’t exactly tell you what it is.”
By the time the sun came up, the object was no longer visible. McMullen says it was visible for about 45 minutes. MUFON was called in to investigate and said that multiple reports of a triangular object had been received from other area residents a few hours earlier just outside Kansas City.
Given the object’s shape and lighting, some viewers surmised the object caught on video was a hot air balloon. McMullen explained that the object was located extremely high in the sky, at a much higher altitude than would be possible for a hot air balloon. Other viewers then proposed that the object was a high-altitude weather balloon. Meteorologist McMullen told viewers why the object could not be a weather balloon:
“As a Meteorologist I can tell you weather balloons aren’t launched at that time. They are all launched a couple hours before and they aren’t that big and don’t put out a strobe like that. This thing was very far away and very high so if it were a balloon it would have to be the largest balloon ever built and launched.”
Soon after the report was aired, at least one other viewer sent in a video also showing the mysterious object hovering in the eastern sky. Additional reports from area residents also confirmed the sighting. Some thought the object was lightning, others thought it was a military aircraft. As of today, the origin of the object is still unknown.
