Apple may be preparing a rapid-fire refresh of nearly its entire tablet lineup. The company is reportedly planning new versions of the entry-level iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Pro during the first half of 2027, following the arrival of a dramatically upgraded iPad mini.
The expected trio would cover Apple’s three remaining major iPad families. Early coverage from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman’s reporting points to a new base model, an iPad Air with a potential OLED display, and a faster iPad Pro with improved thermal management. Apple has not announced launch dates, product names, or specifications for those devices.
The timing would make the iPad mini’s October debut the opening move in a much broader hardware cycle. In its official announcement, Apple described the new mini as its most capable version yet, pairing an 8.5-inch OLED screen with the A20 Pro chip, a thinner 5.4-millimeter design, IP67 water and dust resistance, faster connectivity, and a landscape-edge Center Stage camera. Preorders began October 28, with retail availability scheduled for November 6.
OLED could become the defining upgrade across more of the range. The new mini brings pixel-level lighting control, deeper blacks, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits. If the reported OLED iPad Air arrives, Apple would be extending that display technology beyond its premium Pro line and newly updated compact tablet.
The iPad Pro is expected to take a different route, with a reported vapor chamber aimed at improving sustained performance during demanding workloads. That would be especially relevant as Apple continues pushing iPadOS toward heavier creative, gaming, and artificial-intelligence tasks. The rumored entry-level model, meanwhile, would give Apple a chance to update its most affordable tablet without necessarily inheriting every premium feature from the Air and Pro.
For shoppers, the compressed schedule creates a familiar Apple dilemma: buy the new mini now for its OLED screen and portability, or wait for a potentially wider-ranging spring lineup. The current rumor window runs from January through June 2027, but no launch event has been confirmed, and Apple’s plans could still change before any of the three tablets are announced.
