Book Beacon: Book Sales Tracking Software for Amazon and KDP Authors

Book Beacon is book sales tracking software for authors who sell on Amazon. It brings every book, edition and series into one sales dashboard and fills that dashboard from the sources Amazon actually offers: KDP report imports, a one-click sync of the KDP dashboard itself, Seller Central orders in near real time, and sales-rank tracking with unit estimates. If you have ever kept your royalties in a spreadsheet and your Best Sellers Rank in your head, this is the author sales tracker that replaces both.

Who uses Book Beacon

  • Self-published and indie authors on KDP who want to see Kindle, paperback and hardcover sales, KENP pages read and royalties per book and per day, without downloading a report every time.
  • Series authors who need read-through and sell-through from book one to book two to know whether the series is working.
  • Authors who also sell through Seller Central (author copies, wide distribution, a storefront) and want those orders to arrive automatically.
  • Small presses and authors with pen names tracking a whole catalog under several names in one account.

Why Amazon sales tracking is hard, and how Book Beacon handles it

Amazon does not give authors one clean feed. KDP has no API at all; its numbers live in a dashboard and in downloadable reports. Seller Central has a proper API, the Selling Partner API, but it covers only orders you sell as a seller. Sales rank is public but says nothing directly about units. Book Beacon uses each source for what it is good at and files everything into one ledger, one row per edition per day per source, so nothing is counted twice and every figure can be traced back to where it came from.

Book sales tracking features

Books, editions and covers

Add a book by ASIN or ISBN and Book Beacon pulls the title, author, cover, list price, page count and current rank from Amazon. Each format is its own edition with its own ASIN and royalty terms: Kindle, paperback, hardcover and audiobook. If you add a Kindle edition of a paperback you already track, Book Beacon notices and offers to attach it to the same book rather than creating a duplicate, and a Merge tool tidies up any that slipped through.

KDP report import that counts each order once

Upload the XLSX or CSV straight from KDP Reports. Book Beacon recognizes the layouts KDP uses, including workbooks that repeat the same orders on a Combined Sales sheet, per-format royalty sheets and an Orders sheet, and imports each unit exactly once. Re-importing a file replaces what it wrote before, so a corrected report never leaves stale rows behind. KENP pages read are imported alongside units and royalties.

KDP Live sync: today’s numbers from the KDP dashboard

Because KDP has no API, Book Beacon reads your KDP dashboard the way your browser does. You drag a “Sync KDP” bookmark to your bookmarks bar once; from then on, one click while you are signed in to KDP pulls today’s orders and KENP pages per title, and up to a year of daily history, into your dashboard. Nothing about your Amazon login is stored, and there is no browser extension to install. When a KDP report later covers the same month, the live rows are set aside automatically so the report’s figures win and nothing double counts.

Live Seller Central orders

Connect the Amazon Selling Partner API with your own seller credentials and Book Beacon polls your orders every 15 minutes, which is about as fast as Amazon itself reports them. Order lines are matched to editions by ASIN or SKU, cancellations update the same row, and net revenue is estimated from your referral fee and print cost.

Amazon sales rank tracker

Every edition with an ASIN gets a Best Sellers Rank history: overall rank, category rank, price, rating and review count, refreshed hourly or daily depending on your plan. Rank tracking works with no API keys at all; add your own Product Advertising API keys and Book Beacon uses the official feed instead. A rank-based estimate of daily units, drawn from the Kindle Store rank curve, is available for titles that have no order data, and it is always labelled as an estimate and kept apart from real sales.

Series read-through and sell-through

Group books into a series and each series page shows units per book in order, read-through from one book to the next, and sell-through from the first book to the last, over the last 90 days and over the lifetime of the series. It is the single most useful number a series author can watch.

Goals and pace

Set monthly or yearly targets for units, royalty or KENP pages, for all books or one book or one series. Each goal shows progress against the target and against the time elapsed, with a projected finish so you know early whether you are on pace.

Dashboards, ledger and export

The dashboard covers royalty, units, KENP and today’s figures with comparisons to the previous period, sales by day, by format, by marketplace and by source, top books, recent activity and rank movers. The ledger lists every row with its source and can be filtered by book, format, marketplace and source, and exported to CSV.

Your credentials stay yours

Amazon API keys are encrypted at rest and never shown again once saved. The KDP sync never sees your Amazon password. Each author’s books, sales and credentials are isolated to their own account.

Book Beacon compared with a spreadsheet

A spreadsheet can hold KDP’s monthly report. It cannot tell you what sold today, it will happily add the same order twice when you paste two overlapping reports, it does not know that your paperback and your Kindle edition are the same book, and it has no idea what your rank was last Tuesday. Book Beacon does all of that automatically, and it still gives you the spreadsheet when you want one, as a CSV export of exactly the rows you are looking at.

Book sales tracker pricing

Book Beacon is priced for working authors. Every plan is month to month, yearly billing is available where offered, and the free Indie plan never expires. Stripe handles billing so your card details never touch our servers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Book Beacon connect to KDP directly?

KDP has no API, so no tool can connect to it the way one connects to Seller Central. Book Beacon gives you the two best alternatives: import KDP’s own reports, and sync the KDP dashboard from your signed-in browser with one click. Together they give you today’s figures and an accurate history.

Is the Seller Central order sync really live?

Yes, within Amazon’s limits. The Selling Partner API reports an order within minutes of purchase, and Book Beacon polls every 15 minutes. It covers orders you sell through a seller account, not KDP royalties.

Do I need Amazon API keys?

No. Book lookup and rank tracking work without any keys. Product Advertising API keys are optional and switch rank tracking to Amazon’s official feed; Selling Partner API credentials are needed only for live Seller Central orders.

How does it avoid double counting?

Every ledger row carries a dedupe key built from its source, edition and date. Re-imports update rows instead of adding them, live-dashboard rows are set aside when a report covers the same month, and rank-based estimates are stored separately and never mixed into real totals unless you ask.

Can I track KENP pages read?

Yes. KENP is imported from KDP reports and pulled by the KDP Live sync, per title and per day, and shown alongside units and royalties. A configurable per-page rate estimates the royalty when a report gives pages but no money.

What about books in a series?

Assign books to a series with an order, and the series page reports read-through between consecutive books and sell-through across the whole series, with a chart of units by book over the last 90 days.

What does the free plan include?

Up to three books, manual sales entry, KDP report import, ASIN and ISBN lookup and one series, with a 90-day dashboard window. No card required.
