Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 were launched in 1977 and have been travelling through space at 40,000 MPH for over 30 years now. 11 billion miles from Earth, they have provided NASA scientists with valuable information about the outer planets and although their nuclear reactors are beginning to wind down, they are still delivering information…

NASA has been responsible for some of the most significant space exploration missions in history, including the Apollo missions, the Space Shuttle program, and the International Space Station. We have a wide range of topics related to NASA, including space exploration, planetary science, astrophysics, aeronautics, and more. Delve into the history of NASA and the people who have made it the incredible organization it is today.
Curiosity Rover finds mysterious metallic object while scooping its first soil samples [UPDATE]
Curiosity Rover scooped its first soil samples yesterday and while scooping, took a picture of something that NASA cannot identify. It’s a small, silver metallic looking chip or flake of some kind. It could be something left over from the MSL descent mechanisms or some previously unknown soil anomaly.
SpaceX makes historic first cargo run to International Space Station on Sunday 10/7/12
Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) will be launching its first cargo mission to the International Space Station as part of a $1.6 billion contract with NASA to deliver supplies, this Sunday, 10/7/12 at 8:35 EDT. The company’s Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon capsule will take off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
Gravity Probe B gyroscope, holder of world record for roundest object ever manufactured, can spin for 15,000 years
Gravity Probe B is a satellite-based, relativity gyroscope experiment that launched in 2004 for the purpose of measuring the space-time curvature near Earth in order to test Einstein’s theory of general relativity. The experiment was to check, very precisely, tiny changes in the spin and angle of four gyroscopes contained in a highly sophisticated housing…
NASA Curiosity Rover finds evidence of ancient flowing streams on Mars – UPDATED PICTURES
NASA announced today (on the evening of Sol 51), that Curiosity Rover has found evidence of an ancient flowing stream on Mars at a few sites. Round-shaped rocks, called clasts, have lead Geologists to the conclusion that they have been moved about by water. The clasts are too heavy to have been moved by wind.
ISS debris avoidance maneuver cancelled – NASA breathes sigh of relief
Record breaking deep space photo captures farthest-ever view into the universe – only .5 billion years short of the beginning of time
The new eXtreme Deep Field (XDF) photograph gives us a glimpse back 13.2 billion years into the universe’s past. Given that the universe is thought to be around 13.7 billion years old, this gives us a glimpse of the universe at its very earliest stages of development. To create the picture, Hubble returned to the…
Curiosity Rover performs driveby blast, then stops and fondles its first Martian rock on route to Glenelg
This past weekend, on route to Glenelg, the Curiosity Rover’s first target on Mars, Curiosity arrived at the “Jake Matijevic” rock where it stopped and probed the rock with its huge robotic arm to determine its chemical composition. Curiosity also blasted the specimen with its Alpha Particle X-Ray Spectrometer. Then Curiosity shot laser pulses at…

Life may be able to survive on more planets that we originally thought
Astronomers are changing their tune and now think extraterrestrial life may be able to survive on more planets than they originally thought. In fact, there may be seven times more life bearing planets than they originally estimate. Earth differs from most planets in that it orbits the Sun on a fairly circular orbit. Most other…
