The 1950’s were the heyday of McCarthyism and like many other forms of entertainment, comic books came to be viewed as a threat. The industry’s reaction to the threat would kick off an entirely new era – the Silver Age of Comics.

Mad will salute Jaffee with a tribute issue next week. It will be the magazine’s final issue to offer new material before the format shifts to limited runs featuring previously-release material. Included in the issues new material will be Jaffee’s final Fold-In.

Last week Stan Lee cancelled two appearances at the last minute due to “very serious circumstances” and indeed those circumstances were serious. 89-year-old Stan Lee had a pacemaker installed.

Stan Lee, creator of most of Marvel’s biggest characters, has teamed up with Moonshark to create a new mobile game called Verticus. Stan Lee helped with creation of the Verticus characters and plot and Dallas-based Controlled Chaos Studios developed the game software. The game will launch in Fall 2012.
