An Albert Einstein letter to Polish American physicist Ludwik Silberstein has sold for more than $1.2 million. The letter, dated October 26, 1946, is one of only four examples of the famous E=mc2 equation written in Einstein’s own hand. It was expected to sell for around $400,000.
The recipient, Ludwik Silberstein, was a critic of some of Einstein’s theories. The letter was written in German and contained the line, “Your question can be answered from the E=mc2 formula, without any erudition.” It was a part of Silberstein’s personal collection and was sold by his descendants.
