The perfect casting for the first-ever Red Line Club crowdfund campaign had to be chosen by the designers. With over 25,000 unique castings in Hot Wheels’ history, it was a difficult task to narrow down the options. A highly desired prize among collectors, a ride that would allow for exciting customizations and be presented for display in an interesting way were needed.
The “Candy Striper” ’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser debuted in November 2015 and was an immediate sensation. It has become so popular that some versions sell for thousands of dollars on the secondary market. The deco itself was also so popular that a version of it was created for a different casting in 2021, which also sold out within moments. A Gasser that would surpass even the wildest dreams was designed.
The “base model” requires 10,000 backers for the car to go into production. It will come standard with an all-metal body and chassis, a multi-piece engine with spark plug wires and detailed parts, Spectraflame paint, real rubber tires, working doors and trunk lid, and working steering. If more Hot Wheels fans back the project, even more amazing accessories can be added.
At 13,000 backers, Mattel Creations will add a replica 1:64 “Candy Striper” die-cast car. When the campaign reaches 16,000 backers, they will add plug-in flame exhaust and smoke stands for wheelie display for the 1:18 version. If the campaign reaches 19,000 backers, they will add a display plinth and background scene and individually number each set.

Mattel Creations urges Hot Wheels fans to spread the word about this campaign and help them unlock all the tiers to create a masterpiece with the 1:18 scale “Candy Striper” ’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser.
The packaging will feature an individually numbered sticker (xxx/xxx) only if the campaign reaches 19,000+ backers. The RLC members-only period runs from September 12, 2023, at 9 AM PT until October 9, 2023, at 11:59 PM PT.
The price of the car is $250.00 plus shipping and processing each. Extra charges may apply for express shipping or special handling. Customers shipping to Canada may be required to pay additional shipping charges or taxes. International shipping is available, but shipping costs and details are subject to change. There are no purchase limits, and no refunds will be given from October 9, 2023, at 11:59 PM PT until the item ships. After the item ships, refunds will only be given for defective items, and no exchanges are available.
