Wonder, mystery, mischief, and fishnets
Today, DC Comics revealed Zatanna, an exciting new six-issue DC All In comic series set to debut in February 2025, created by writer and artist Jamal Campbell! Zatanna Zatara, the Mistress of Magic, is hitting the road again!
“Wonder, mystery, mischief, and fishnets make up the core of a quintessential Zatanna Zatara stage show, and it’s high time she returned to the spotlight,” said Campbell. “In her newest DC Comics series, Zatanna is dragged down a rabbit hole of cursed swords, hidden truths, and multiple brushes with death. She’ll need all her wits and every spell she can muster in order to make it out the other side in one piece.”
In the new limited comic book series, Zatanna reunites her stage crew and anticipates a new, less chaotic chapter of life. However, her plans are thrown into turmoil when her crew is kidnapped by a ghostly new adversary, The Lady White. Now, Zatanna is thrust into a web of schemes involving tricks, swords, and curses that threaten to tear her apart from the inside out!
Renowned comic book artist Jamal Campbell (known for Superman, Far Sector, and Naomi) is responsible for both writing and illustrating all six issues of DC’s new series, All In. His distinctive style for Zatanna features clean linework, natural colors, and gentle shading. Meanwhile, the magical scenes in Zatanna highlight Campbell’s talent for the dynamic, using bright, saturated pastels and vibrant neons.
“It’s been a dream tackling Zatanna’s world, introducing brand-new allies and adversaries as well as bringing back some old classics that haven’t been seen in a while,” continued Campbell. “I’m weaving all my appreciation of the character into these pages in order to show and prove what makes Zatanna so magical.”
Zatanna #1 is set to release on February 19, featuring writing and art by Campbell, along with lettering by Ariana Maher. The main and variant covers are designed by Campbell, with additional variants by Chris Bachalo, Jaime Mendoza, Sozomaika, David Talaski, Saowee (1:25), and the DC Showcase variant by Derrick Chew.
