Ocarina of Time Remake Foil Cover Sells Out at Amazon Before Launch

The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time remake video game

Amazon has run out of its supply of the textured foil-cover edition of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ahead of the remake’s November 5 launch. Nintendo’s first physical print run includes the reflective packaging only while supplies last, turning what might have been a routine retail detail into an unexpected collector’s incentive. Amazon’s foil-cover stock has already disappeared, although its listing indicates that standard packaging will return around release day.

Fans still have a chance to secure the special cover through other retailers. Walmart is currently the standout option, offering the game for $59.88—$10 below the $69.99 price listed by Best Buy, Target, GameStop, and the Nintendo Store. Availability can change quickly, however, and Nintendo has not published quantities for the textured packaging. The game inside is identical regardless of the cover.

Nintendo describes the packaging as commemorative foil cover art, with a textured surface that catches the light as the case moves. The company confirmed the limited first-run treatment alongside the remake’s release details in its 40th-anniversary Zelda announcement. That same presentation showed the project’s larger ambitions: completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic music, and redesigned camera and movement controls.

The remake is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 and revisits the 1998 Nintendo 64 adventure that established many of the modern conventions of 3D action-adventure games. Nintendo’s official store listing confirms the November 5 release date, while early coverage has also highlighted additions such as a jump button, 60-frame-per-second presentation, and a boss-rematch area called the Hall of Fallen Foes.

The foil-cover rush also illustrates how publishers can turn ordinary launch packaging into a limited collectible without splitting the audience into different content tiers. Unlike a premium edition with extra digital items or gameplay bonuses, this version gives early physical buyers a visual memento while preserving the same game experience for later customers. For collectors, though, the distinction matters: once the initial run is exhausted, retailers may continue selling the remake with standard cover art.

With launch day arriving Thursday, the safest play for anyone specifically chasing the reflective case is to check Walmart first and confirm that the product page still identifies the textured-foil version before ordering. Other retailers may receive additional launch-day inventory, but Amazon’s sold-out status is a warning that the special packaging is unlikely to remain widely available after release.
