It’s official. “Star Trek Into Darkness” (or “Star Trek: Into Darkness”) will be the name of the new Star Trek movie to be released May 17, 2013. The domains startrekintodarkness.com and startrekintodarknessmovie.com were registered on September 7, 2012 by Markmonitor, an anonymous registry service that many corporations use to protect their online branding (official website is http://www.StarTrekMovie.com). The upcoming science fiction movie, the twelfth in the series, is the sequel to 2009’s Star Trek. The film will be directed by J. J. Abrams and will star Chris Pine as Captain James T. Trek who also starred in the 2009 Star Trek movie. Filming was shot on location in Los Angeles and began on January 12, 2012. Filming completed in May 2012 and is scheduled to be released May 17, 2013.
