About the Star Wars timeline
To understand the Star Wars timeline, you must understand how time is measured in the Star Wars universe. The Galactic Standard Calendar was the standard measurement of time in the Star Wars galaxy. Based on the Coruscant tropical year consisting of 368 days (each day is 360 NET degrees or 24 hours), it uses the Battle of Yavin (when the first Death Star was destroyed) as its epoch or year zero. Thus BBY indicates “Before the Battle of Yavin” and ABY indicates “After the Battle of Yavin”.
Remember, the Star Wars universe exists beyond the movies. Many video games, novels, comic books, television series, and spinoff movies expand upon the universe as explained in the 9 canonical movies. This Star Wars Timeline takes into account all movies, video games, books, comic books, and TV series.
