Baby Yoda was revealed at the end of the Mandalorian’s first episode and instantly became a fan favorite, but in the season 1 official script, Baby Yoda was supposed to be called “The Child”. Disney tried to get fans to call him The Child but to no avail. The name Baby Yoda stuck.
Thus far in the saga, we know vert little about Baby Yoda. We know he is not the Jedi Master Yoda but rather, a member of the same unnamed species. We know he shares a strong ability with the Force. And we know the character was created by showrunner Jon Favreau based on his desire to explore the mystery around Master Yoda. But frustratingly, we do not know his name. Today we find out that season 2 director Sam Hargrave admits he knows Baby Yoda’s real name.
“Yes, I know the name of The Child. I carry that secret. It’s a very heavy burden.”
The Child character was created to explore Master Yoda’s origin so it is certain that more information about Baby Yoda is forthcoming but thus far, Disney has not revealed his name. This weeks’ teaser from Hargrave however, hints that we may soon find out – possibly even in Season 2.
