About the Eternal’s movie.
Eternals are ancient aliens who have secretly been living on Earth for thousands of years. They have helped “guide” various civilizations over the years, introducing them to certain pieces of technology and nudging them down the right path. But they “have never interfered…until now.”
Eternals is the first Marvel Studios film to be directed by Chloé Zhao, who won the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director for her work on Nomadland. Writers Zhao, Kaz Firpo, Ryan Firpo, and Patrick Burleigh penned the screenplay. Ben Davis will serve as the cinematographer – his previous Marvel credits include Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel. Game of Thrones and Westworld composer Ramin Djawadi is handling the score. Kevin Feige is the producer.
The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”
Eternals opened in theaters on November 5, 2021.

Previously, and for some time, the record was held by “Thor: The Dark World.”
First reactions to LA premiere of the Eternals movie look meh. October 20, 2021
The LA premiere of the Eternals has concluded and feedback is begin to hit social media.
Erik Davis says Eternals is a whole new take from Marvel:
Marvel’s #Eternals is spectacularly weird & rich w/ a new MCU mythology that makes it feel separate from everything else. It’s honestly refreshing. There’s a bittersweetness to the film that you feel in its sunset shots – a definite Chloé Zhao touch. It is soulful & thoughtful
Tessa Smith proclaims the Eternals a masterpiece:
“Holy crap – Eternals is a freaking MASTERPIECE!!! Packed with adrenaline right from the start, but also filled with lots of heart & humor! So many MCU firsts!! Your mind will be BLOWN! Nods to comics but a totally unique story. Those end credits are GAME CHANGERS!!”
Aaron Couch proclaims Eternals is “off the charts”
Eternals , wow! A lot to unpack. If Marvel movies are a Venn diagram — variations within that overlap — this movie is off the charts. Hands down the most different of any of their films.
BD notes the movie’s complexity:
Eternals is a whole lot of movie.
It’s shot with a massive scope, looking visually different (and more intimate) than anything else Marvel. It has laughs, great surprises, and heart to go with the gigantic, crowded story it unpacks.
Chloé Zhao has a really unique visual stamp.
Scott Menzel says it’s one of Marvel’s best-looking movies of all time:
Eternals is Marvel’s version of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. A film that builds upon a cast of unknown characters and does so with great success. Chloé Zhao direction is superb. Easily one of the best looking Marvel films of all time. Insane post credits scenes too.
Courtney Howard tweets Eternals is nothing short of amazing:
Eternals is amazing! Chloé Zhao & company turn in an evocative, emotional, extraordinarily epic superhero film. The ensemble have great chemistry & all get big Movie Moments to showcase their prowess. The naturalism of Ben Davis’ cinematography spotlights characters’ humanity.
Drew Taylor says Eternals breaks new ground for MCU:
Eternals breaks new ground for the MCU and not in all the ways you’re expecting. Alternating between beautiful and baffling, epic and intimate, it’s a movie of huge ideas, where the sentiment often matters more than anything going on in the story. I can’t wait to see it again.
A bit more alarming, more than one person has compared the movie to a DC film. Scott Menderlson said:
Eternals flirts with being “just a superhero movie” but (barely) gets by on scale, a few affable actors and some eventual intrugue. At its best, it almost plays like Marvel playing in the DCEU sandbox but coasting on comparatively generic superhero archetypes.
First official clip for the Eternals is released.
The first official clip for The Eternals has arrived and gives us a look at sea monsters and Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari and Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo characters.
Eternals will have not just one, but two post-credit scenes that director Chloe Zhao says will really shake things up. October 12, 2021
Eternals director Chloe Zhao says the movie will feature not just one, but two post-credit scenes that inform viewers about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She recently told Fandango:
“Yes! Don’t just stay for the first one — also stay for the second one, too. They are equally as important in weight, and both have big surprises for you.”
Expect a different visual language in Eternals as Chloe Zhao shakes things up. October 12, 2021
Director Chloe Zhao has not only rejected green-screen usage (as much as possible) but has also increased the shot length far longer than what we are used to seeing in the MCU. According to Zhao, she wanted to let the shots “breathe throughout the MCU epic”. She explained:
“For this specific movie, what drew me to this movie and why they hired me, I think, is that the visual experience for this film must feel immersive enough for the audience to believe that these superhero characters have walked the earth for 7,000 years. So, to do that, there’s what I like to call an anthropological way of capturing things. The cameras are very grounded, and the movements are very natural. Shots are longer — we use wide angle lenses, and deep focus…it’s about giving the audience the space and the time to be able to explore what’s within the frame, and therefore come to their own conclusion of the relationship between the characters and the space they’re in.”
She added:
“We definitely linger with the camera, both in action sequences and if it’s someone walking through a village or in space with the Celestials. We always try to see how long we can hold before we have to cut. When you have unlimited tools, it was very important to set limitations. So for us, we set the language up and then we follow it strictly. And part of that for us is to try to linger in every type of scene as much as possible for a film like this.”
Say what? Kit Harington will not suit up as Black Knight in Eternals. October 12, 2021
Given that Kit Harington is slated to play Dane Whitman, we just assumed he would suit up as Black Knight since Whitman was the third character to bear the Black Knight name. However, that turns out to not be the case. Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore told Screen Rant that Eternals would not see Harington as Black Knight:
“We think he’s interesting and a great character and actually Kit Harington, who just wrapped yesterday, was fantastic, but we very much explore the relationship between Dane Whitman and Sersi, which is again something for comic readers … you won’t see the Ebony Blade in this movie. He’s not going to be a Black Knight necessarily, but that is something that we get to play with down the road.”

Kit Harrington gives insight into his Dane Whitman character. September 25, 2021
Actor Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) provided some insight into his Dane Whitman character (aka the Black Knight), a side character in Eternals that is a pivotal character in the comic books.
“He’s not an Eternal. He’s a character who works with the Natural History Museum in London. But he’s not an Eternal – that’s the main takeaway! I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not. I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So, there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!”
Harington also revealed that his character will be romantically linked to Gemma Chan’s Sersi character.

Chloe Zhao gives more details about the premise behind the Eternals movie. September 14, 2021
Why did the Eternals allow Thanos to destroy the world? Because they are not allowed to interfere. According to Eternals director Chloe Zhao:
“The audience will understand why. Not only why, but how complicated not interfering made them feel. We explore that. You’ll see that in the film. The Eternals were instructed not to interfere with any human conflict unless Deviants are involved. There’s a reason why that’s the case. And that was the instruction from the prime Celestial Arishem.”
But that’s not all Zhao revealed. Eternals will be set in the deep, deep past – before Thanos was even born.
“What excited me is the idea of going back in time, and exploring [the time] before Thanos was born, before anyone was born. Where does the MCU go back in time? And that brings us to the mythology of the Celestials. Anything involving the Celestials is going to be at a huge scale level of complication, let’s put it that way.”

The trailer for Eternals is, in a single word, stunning. August 18, 2021
The final trailer for Chloé Zhao’s film introduces audiences to The Deviants and so much more. For instance, the trailer explains that the Eternals were instructed to never interfere with Earthlings even when things got dire — like in the case of Thanos vanishing half of the universe’s population out of existence. And it was the restoration of the population that was snapped away by Thanos that is now causing something ominous called “The Emergence.”
And the trailer isn’t all we got – here’s the first look at the official poster that Marvel shared on Twitter today.

Eternals’ star Richard Madden says Eternals is more than “just another superhero movie”. (July 19, 2021)
Eternals star Richard Madden told GQ he felt the movie was more than just another superhero movie, something the studio has never done before.
“it’s above just another superhero movie. It’s about, ‘OK, so how do they interact with the world now, when they’ve done everything?’ What are these people like? And what do they value and care about? What doesn’t affect them? The Marvel Universe keeps changing and elevating and growing and I really think we’re doing something that they’ve not done yet.”
What we know about the new Eternals movie and why the highly-anticipated MCU film is such a big deal.
Today Marvel released the first teaser trailer and official poster for Eternals, set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. The movie is directed by Oscar and Golden Globe-winning filmmaker Chloe Zhao and features an all-star cast including Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Kit Harrington, and Richard Madden. To say Marvel has thrown their weight behind the Eternals film would be an understatement. All indications hint that Marvel will use Eternals to a large degree in the future.
Eternals is based on Jack Kirby’s Marvel comic of the same name and tells the epic story of a new God-like team of alien superheroes who were created by an alien civilization (Celestials) to act as defenders of Earth. They have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years. The storyline spans thousands of years and pits the team against another group of immortals, mankind’s oldest enemy, the Deviants. The movie version of Eternals will follow the events of Avengers: Endgame.
Here’s a list of the characters starring in Marvel’s Eternals movie.
Eternals features the following characters:
Richard Madden as Ikaris
Ikaris is the tactical leader of the Eternals. As one of the most powerful Eternals, he can manipulate gravitons in order to fly, has superhuman strength, and can project energy beams from his eyes. Yes, sounds a lot like Superman except he also has telepathic powers which let him create illusions that alter his appearance, can release energy from his hands, and teleport..
Gemma Chan as Sersi
Sersi, a museum curator on Earth (who eventually becomes a New York socialite), has a special fondness for mankind and uses her ability to manipulate non-sentient matter to protect us. Her love for Ikaris is explored throughout the Eternals storyline.
Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo
Kingo can project cosmic energy from his hands. His desire for fame led him to lead an Earth-life as a Bollywood film star.
Lauren Ridloff as Makkari
Makkari is akin to The Flash and uses her super-speed to scout other planets. She if the first deaf MCU character to appear in film.
Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos
Phastos is a highly-intelligent cosmic-powered inventor who uses his powers to secretly advance humanity through technology. He is the first gay MCU character to appear on film.
Selma Hayek as Ajak
Ajak is the spiritual leader of the Eternals. A brilliant archaeologist, he can communicate with the Celestials and possesses the ability to regenerate after any injury.
Lia McHugh as Sprite
Sprite can project lifelike illusions but mentally, is a child (and treated as such by the other Eternals). Sprite can also fly and teleport over great distances.
Don Lee as Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh is the most powerful Eternal and can project an exoskeleton of cosmic energy.
Barry Keoghan as Druig
Druig is portrayed as an aloof Eternal that disagrees with the group’s interaction with humanity. He can use cosmic energy to control the minds of others.
Angelina Jolie as Thena
Thena is a fierce female warrior (she is often mistaken for the goddess Athena) who can use cosmic energy to create any weapon of her choice. Think Wonder Woman to the nth degree.
Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman
Dane is a warrior who wields a mystical sword.
