Expansion of Superplastic’s character universe
Amazon and Superplastic have announced a collaboration involving investment and a first-look deal with Amazon Studios to develop a series featuring Superplastic’s synthetic celebrities. This investment round raised Superplastic’s funding to $58 million to support the expansion of the Superplastic character universe.
What sets this collaboration apart is that the Superplastic synthetic celebrities Janky and Guggimon built a massive fan base on social media before landing a first-look deal with Amazon Studios, as opposed to the traditional sequence where merchandise, gaming, and metaverse activations follow the success of a popular animated series.
Development of The Janky & Guggimon Show
In addition, Amazon Studios is currently in the development phase of The Janky & Guggimon Show, which stars Superplastic’s synthetic celebrities, Janky and Guggimon. The show follows the hilarious and chaotic adventures of two friends who are determined to become famous and wealthy. The companies have also signed a first-look deal to create more series and films starring other characters in the Superplastic universe.
The Janky & Guggimon Show features an all-star cast of animated and human celebrity friends and will be available to stream exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide if ordered to series.
Superplastic founder and CEO Paul Budnitz, said:
“Superplastic’s universe of synthetic celebrities have earned a cult following in every medium they’ve touched. The new collaboration partnership with Amazon Studios reaches a massive audience and provides a new playground for us to wreak havoc worldwide. We’re grateful for the investment the Amazon Alexa Fund gave us to help us continue to grow the Superplastic Universe!”
