Black Clover Season 2 has wasted no time reminding fans why Mereoleona Vermillion is one of the Clover Kingdom’s most terrifying fighters. In the second episode of the long-awaited return, the former Crimson Lion captain unveils the canonical version of Flame Magic: Hellfire Incarnate, transforming herself into a living blaze during the Magic Knights’ assault on the Spade Kingdom.
The moment arrives as Mereoleona confronts an ancient demon on the front lines. Rather than relying on the standard distance between mage and spell, she opens her grimoire and draws her fire magic directly into her body. The result is an explosive form that amplifies her physical combat style and lets her overwhelm an opponent normally resistant to conventional magic. Early episode coverage identifies the installment as “The Door to Hell,” with Mereoleona’s transformation serving as one of its defining battles. AOL’s episode coverage describes the fiery technique and the broader battle unfolding around her.
Hellfire Incarnate is especially significant because Mereoleona has spent much of the series fighting through instinct, endurance, and hand-to-hand skill rather than leaning heavily on her grimoire. Her new state combines those qualities with precise mana control, surrounding her body in intense flames while dramatically increasing her offensive power. It is not an effortless upgrade, however: the technique consumes an enormous amount of mana, meaning that sustaining it for too long carries a serious cost.
Fans may recognize the form from Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, where it appeared briefly. The movie is a separate story rather than a direct adaptation of the manga’s canon, making Season 2’s version the important milestone for viewers waiting to see the technique integrated into the main narrative. As ComicBook.com’s original report notes, Mereoleona will call on the form again as the Spade Kingdom Raid intensifies.
The timing also gives the anime a complicated advantage over its source material. Yūki Tabata’s manga moved from Weekly Shonen Jump to the quarterly Jump GIGA in 2023 after health-related scheduling concerns, and the manga reached its conclusion in 2026 after more than 11 years of publication. Anime News Network reported that Shueisha published the final three chapters in the spring issue of Jump GIGA. The anime, meanwhile, still has the remaining Spade Kingdom material and the final arcs ahead of it, allowing longtime readers to watch major battles receive a full animated treatment.
The original television run aired for 170 episodes between 2017 and 2021, with Studio Pierrot producing the adaptation. Season 2 premiered on October 3, 2026, and new episodes are streaming internationally on Crunchyroll. The next installment, “Black Guardian,” is scheduled for October 17, with previews teasing the opening of the underworld gates and another escalation involving Asta and the invading devils. CBR reports that the episode will air in Japan on October 17 and stream internationally through Crunchyroll.
