About the Rebel Moon movie.
Rebel Moon will be co-written by Zack Snyder who will also direct and produce the project. Army of the Dead screenwriter Shay Hatten and 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad are also on board for the film. Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller and Zack Snyder will produce for The Stone Quarry along Eric Newman for Grand Electric. Sarah Bowen will exec produce for Grand Electric.
Snyder spent years building the concept for Rebel Moon and it’s no secret he hopes the project can turn into a universe that Netflix can further expand upon.
“My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out. I’ve spent the last two or three years building out this universe. Every corner has to be painted in. I’ve been doing designs, constantly drawing and really cultivating its fertile ground to make this world fully realized.”
The movie synopsis reads:
“The story is set in motion when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate people dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.”
Production is expected to start in 2022.

Zach Snyder announces beginning of Rebel Moon production. April 19, 2022
Zach Snyder today announed production of Rebel Moon. In a tweet, he revealed filming has officially begun on the movie(s), posting a first-look photo of Hounsou’s character and the set for what appears to be the cargo bay of a spaceship. “Day 1 #RebelMoon. It’s begun”.
Rupert Friend and Stuart Martin added to cast of Rebel Moon. February 28, 2022
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rupert Friend (The Death of Stalin) and Stuart Martin (Army of Thieves) are the latest actors to join the already star-studded cast of “Rebel Moon.” We have very little detail about their characters, however, Friend is said to play the lead antagonist of the film. In Martin’s case, there are no specifics for his character yet, but sources say that he’s meant to be on the villainous side of the equation as well.

Deadline reports Sofia Boutella (“The Mummy,” “Kingsman: The Secret Service”) has been cast in “Rebel Moon.” Apparently casting for the role has apparently been underway for several months, but Boutella wowed Snyder with her test and nabbed the part right out the gate.

Director Zack Snyder says his intent for Rebel Moon is to go big or go home. He said:
“Frankly what I’m really interested in with Rebel Moon is creating a romantic sci-fi film on a scale that is, frankly, as big as you can make a movie. I’ve never done a science-fiction film at this scale. The beginning of ‘Man of Steel’ on Krypton has pretty big sci-fi elements, but it’s still Krypton and there are certain iconographic things that you have to do. And that’s kind of what we’re doing in ‘Rebel Moon,’ but on the biggest steroids I can give it.”
