About the Tomb Raider 2 movie.
In April 2019, Amy Jump was hired to write a script for a possible Tomb Raider sequel, with Alicia Vikander attached to star in the film. In September 2019, Ben Wheatley, Jump’s husband, signed on to direct the sequel, with a planned March 19, 2021 release date. That same month, it was confirmed that cinematographer Laurie Rose would also work on the film. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, production was delayed until 2021, with filming due to take place in England and South Africa; and the film was removed from the studio’s release schedule.
On January 25, 2021, Misha Green signed to replace Jump and Wheatley respectively as writer and director. The film will be released theatrically in the U.S. via Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s distribution and marketing joint venture United Artists Releasing, and internationally through Warner Bros. Pictures.
On May 14, 2021, Misha Green confirmed via her official Twitter account that the first draft of the script, with the working title Tomb Raider: Obsidian, had been completed.
On July 20, 2021, Vikander told Collider that the sequel is still happening but hasn’t been greenlit yet.

Lead Alicia Vikander says she’s currently developing the sequel alongside writer/director Misha Green. October 16, 2021
Although filming has not started and the project likely still hasn’t been greenlit, lead actress Alicia Vikander says she is currently assisting write/director Misha Green with development of Tomb Raider 2, the sequel to the popular 2018 reboot of the franchise.
“When the studio first said they were interested in a sequel, I got really excited. When Misha was mentioned to me and I saw the work on Lovecraft Country, I was extremely impressed. It’s so much fun on the Zooms I’ve had with Misha to finally sit with another woman my own age. I get to talk about big action set pieces and stunts that we want to make. I’m hoping that we get on track and get to do something together.”
