
Today, Apple announced the launch of the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro. These are the most powerful Macs ever made. The Mac Studio features M2 Max and the new M2 Ultra, which provide enhanced connectivity and a huge boost in performance, all in a compact design. According to Apple, the Mac Studio is up to 6 times faster than the most powerful Intel-based 27-inch iMac. It is also up to 3 times faster than the previous-generation Mac Studio with M1 Ultra.
The Mac Pro, which now features M2 Ultra, combines the performance of Apple’s most powerful chip with the versatility of PCIe expansion. Apple claims that the Mac Pro is up to 3 times faster than the previous-generation Intel-based model. Both the Mac Studio with M2 Ultra and the Mac Pro have up to 192GB of unified memory, which is greater than the memory capacity of the most advanced workstation graphics cards. This makes them capable of handling demanding workloads that other systems cannot process. The new Mac Pro completes the Mac transition to Apple silicon. Together with the rest of Apple’s pro systems, these products represent Apple’s most powerful and capable lineup.
The Mac Studio and Mac Pro are available for order today, with availability beginning on Tuesday, June 13.

Mac Studio: High-Performance Computer
Mac Studio is designed to provide professionals with the power to build their dream studio. The Mac Studio with M2 Ultra is a high-performance device that outperforms the M2 Max. It is the largest and most powerful system on a chip (SoC) ever created by Apple. Compared to the previous-generation Mac Studio with M1 Ultra, it is up to 3 times faster, and up to 6 times faster than the most powerful Intel-based 27-inch iMac. It boasts a 24-core CPU, up to a 76-core GPU, and up to 192GB of memory with 800GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, making it a great choice for demanding tasks.

Mac Studio: Enhanced Connectivity
The new Mac Studio has a wide range of connectivity options for professionals, including higher-bandwidth HDMI that supports up to 8K resolution and 240Hz frame rates. With M2 Ultra, Mac Studio can support up to six Pro Display XDRs, driving over 100 million pixels, and providing a large amount of screen space for professional workflows. It also features advanced built-in wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi 6E that delivers download speeds up to twice as fast as the previous generation, and Bluetooth 5.3 that allows users to connect to the latest Bluetooth accessories. On the back, Mac Studio has four Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10Gb Ethernet port, an enhanced HDMI port, and two USB-A ports. Additionally, it conveniently has two USB-C ports and an SD card slot on the front to easily import photos and videos.
Apple Silicon Comes to Mac Pro
The Mac Pro has now been upgraded with the powerful M2 Ultra chip and PCIe expansion, providing unparalleled performance for demanding workflows. Unlike the previous Intel-based Mac Pro, which started with an 8-core CPU and could be configured up from there, every Mac Pro now comes standard with Apple’s most powerful 24-core CPU, up to a 76-core GPU, and double the memory and SSD storage. You can also configure the new Mac Pro with up to a massive 192GB of memory with 800GB/s of unified memory bandwidth. This is significantly more memory than the most advanced workstation graphics cards. In addition, every Mac Pro now has the performance of not just one, but seven Afterburner cards built in. The Mac Pro also features the same industry-leading media engine as Mac Studio with M2 Ultra, capable of playing an unprecedented 22 streams of 8K ProRes video.

Mac Pro: PCIe Expansion for Professionals
The new Mac Pro offers PCIe expansion on Apple silicon, providing M2 Ultra performance for professionals who depend on internal expansion for their workflows. With seven PCIe expansion slots, including six open slots that support gen 4 and are 2x faster than before, users can customize Mac Pro with essential cards. This allows audio professionals to use digital signal processing (DSP) cards, video professionals to use serial digital interface (SDI) I/O cards to connect to professional cameras and monitors, and users to add networking and storage. Mac Pro allows professionals to customize and expand their systems, enabling them to push the limits of their most demanding workflows.
Mac Pro: Enhanced Connectivity
The Mac Pro has a vast range of connectivity options, which has improved with eight Thunderbolt 4 ports built-in – six at the back and two on the top – double the number of its previous model. The new Mac Pro supports up to six Pro Display XDRs, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, for fast wireless connectivity. Additionally, it has three USB-A ports, two higher-bandwidth HDMI ports that support up to 8K resolution and up to 240Hz frame rates, two 10Gb Ethernet ports, and a headphone jack that allows the use of high-impedance headphones.
Better for the Environment
The new Mac Studio and Mac Pro have been designed with the environment in mind. They contain 100% recycled rare earth elements in all magnets and 100% recycled gold plating and tin soldering in multiple printed circuit boards. The Mac Studio and Mac Pro use less energy than other desktops, with over 40% less energy used than the ENERGY STAR efficiency requirement. They are also free of mercury, PVC, and beryllium. Over 95% of the packaging is fiber-based.
Apple is now carbon neutral for its global corporate operations and is committed to achieving its Apple 2030 goal of making every product carbon neutral. This means that every Mac created by Apple, from design to manufacturing to customer use, will have a net-zero climate impact.
macOS: The Most Advanced Desktop Operating System
macOS Ventura, designed for Apple silicon, powers Mac Studio and Mac Pro, offering breakthrough performance and productivity. Features like Stage Manager simplify task focus and app and window switching, while Continuity Camera, Handoff in FaceTime, Safari passkeys, and the Freeform app help users be more productive and creative. Powerful gaming features like MetalFX Upscaling accelerate gameplay performance with stunning graphics and optimizations for Apple silicon. Pro apps like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro enable users to tackle more complex projects at blazing speeds.
macOS Sonoma, coming this fall, adds powerful features and productivity tools that unlock new ways to get things done on Mac. Dynamic video conferencing features, including Presenter Overlay, enhance users’ presence when showcasing their work during video calls by placing them on top of the content they’re sharing. Designed to enable hybrid in-studio and remote pro workflows, macOS Sonoma brings a new high-performance mode to the Screen Sharing app, which leverages the advanced media engine in Apple silicon to deliver incredibly responsive remote access, including low-latency audio, high frame rates, and support for reference color. Users can place widgets right on the desktop, interact with them with just a click, and use iPhone widgets while they work through the magic of Continuity. Big updates come to Safari, taking productivity on the web to the next level with profiles, which keeps browsing separate between multiple topics or projects, and web apps on Mac, which provide faster access to favorite sites.
