14-Inch MacBook Pro Gets Apple’s M6 Chip and a Serious Battery Boost

Apple’s latest MacBook Pro is aimed at users who want workstation-class performance without stepping up to the larger models. The new 14-inch MacBook Pro arrives with the company’s M6 chip, up to 24 hours of battery life, and the wireless upgrades highlighted in Apple’s new MacBook Pro announcement.

The M6 configuration includes a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, giving Apple two additional cores in each compared with the previous generation. Apple claims the graphics processor is up to 30 percent faster than the M5, while on-device AI workloads improve by as much as 25 percent. The chip also includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine, Neural Accelerators in every GPU core, and a third-generation ray-tracing engine for tasks ranging from local language models to 3D work and gaming.

That performance is paired with a Liquid Retina XDR display capable of 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. A nano-texture option is available for people working under bright lights, while the built-in 12MP Center Stage camera adds Desk View for video calls. Apple is also carrying over the professional-friendly six-speaker system with Spatial Audio, a three-microphone array, MagSafe 3, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a headphone jack.

Connectivity gets a more visible upgrade than the chassis itself. The new laptop supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and can drive up to two external displays. Apple says the machine can reach a 50 percent charge in 30 minutes with a compatible higher-wattage USB-C power adapter, while its battery is rated for as much as 24 hours depending on configuration and use.

The M6 MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 in the United States, or $1,899 with education savings. It is available to preorder on October 28 through Apple’s online store and Apple Store app in 35 countries and regions, with customer deliveries and retail availability beginning November 6. The notebook comes in space black and silver, with an enclosure made from 100 percent recycled aluminum.

Apple’s performance comparisons are based on its own testing against selected M5 and M1 MacBook Pro configurations, so real-world gains will depend on the workload. Still, the combination of stronger graphics, faster local AI processing, modern wireless standards, and all-day battery life makes this a meaningful refresh for developers, creators, and power users who have been waiting to move beyond an older M-series machine.
