Hasbro has announced the latest version of Twister. Twister Air, which uses augmented reality technology, is now available for pre-order on Amazon and will be in major retailers starting on August 1. This game, which is enabled by an app, brings the traditional Twister gameplay to your screens, eliminating the need for a physical mat.

Twister Air is a party game that you can play on your smart device. To score points, players must match the colored spots on the screen by performing actions like reaching, clapping, swiping, and posing to the beat of the music. You’ll need to wear the colorful Twister Air bands on your wrists and ankles. To get started, download the free Twister Air app from Android or iOS, put your device in the stand provided, and follow the instructions in the app to calibrate your bands with your device’s camera. The game has three modes: Solo, VS, or Teams – so you can keep playing as much as you want!

Adam Biehl, SVP & General Manager, Hasbro Gaming, said:

“For over 55 years, Twister has been a household name thanks to the iconic polka-dotted mat that puts you, family, and friends in unusual positions and hysterical situations. This new version of Twister will implement augmented reality technology to bring classic Twister gameplay that originated in the 1960s to modern-day and will surely give players of all ages an exciting new, music-inspired experience to make memories from.”

New Twister Air features coming to the next-generation game include:

  • Limb tracking and color recognition technology, combined with classic Twister gameplay and the magic of AR.
  • 8 colorful, stretchy, and one-size-fits-most Twister Air bands for ankle and wrist movement detection
  • An adjustable stand that holds any smartphone or tablet with a width up to 9-inches
  • A free-to-download Twister Air app (Android and iOS) to play the game
  • In-app high score leaderboards, content capturing, how-to-play tutorials, and more
  • 3 different modes to play – Solo, VS, or Teams. Compete against a friend or team in a shared screen face-off or play solo and try to beat a personal best
  • A library with over 16 songs to move and play to

In addition, Hasbro has released an original song called “Twist in the Air”, in conjunction with the launch of their new game. The song can be played in the game, heard in advertisements, and is available on popular streaming platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and TikTok.

Since its debut in 1966, Twister has been tying players up in tangled knots. In fact, the same year that Johnny Carson, host of The Tonight Show, played a game of Twister on air, it spurred a craze for the game! By early 1967, over 3 million Twister games had been sold. Since then, the brand has remained a relevant pop culture staple by offering updated products that complement the classic game with modern technology, new moves, music, and even celebrity partnerships.
