
Introduction to Blue Beetle UNTITLED
Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alocer wrote the screenplay for an adaptation of Blue Beetle, which will be the first Latino superhero movie for DC. Filming is due to begin early 2022 with Angel Manuel Soto directing. The film was originally planned for release on HBO Max, then Warner Bros. said it will get a theatrical release instead.
In DC Comics, Blue Beetle is the superhero alter ego used by three different heroes, but the film will focus on Mexican-American teenager Jaime Reyes, the third character to assume the Blue Beetle mantle.

Sharon Stone cast as villain in Blue Beetle (and Raoul Max Trujillo has been added to the mix). March 29, 2022
The Hollywood Reporter says Sharon Stone is headed to the DC universe with a role as the villain in Blue Beetle.
Stone, whose character Victoria Kord is a new creation for the film, previously journeyed into the realm of DC with a role in the 2004 Halle Berry film, Catwoman. Additionally, the upcoming superhero film adds Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C.) as another villain, Carapax the Indestructible Man. In the comics, the character is Conrad Carapax, an archeologist whose mind melds with the body of a robot.

According to The Wrap, cast members for “Blue Beetle” now include Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza, comedian George Lopez, Elpidia Carrillo (“Predator”) and Damián Alcázar (“The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”). With this casting announcement, the Reyes family is now complete. Barraza is playing Nana, Lopez has been tapped to play the role of Uncle Rudy, Carrillo will be playing Rocio, and Alcázar is playing Alberto.

Blue Beetle has added Harvey Guillen, Belissa Escobedo, and Brazilian star Bruna Marquezine to the cast. Marquezine will play Penny, a new character that does not appear in the comic books. Escobedo will play Milagros Reyes, Jaime’s younger sister.

Warner Bros. and DC have made a massive change to their slate, with “Blue Beetle” moving from an exclusive streaming release to the big screen. Originally developed for HBO Max, Warner Bros. announced today (per The Hollywood Reporter) that “Blue Beetle” will hit theaters on August 18, 2023.

TheWrap reports that Xolo Maridueña has signed on to play Jaime Reyes (the teenage boy that came into possession of the Blue Betle scarab) in the upcoming Blue Beetle film from Charm City Kings director Angel Manuel Soto. Xolo Maridueña is best known for his work as Miguel Diaz in the Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai.
