In August 2021, brothers Casey and Colin Jost were hired by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon to write a new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) live-action film. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Scott Mednick and Galen Walker are producing.

The turtles were originally comic book characters but debuted on television in the 1987 cartoon show. Following the initial cartoon, which ran from 1987 until 1996, there were three more Ninja Turtles cartoon series. There was even a short-lived live-action television series that ran for one season in the late ’90s. Paramount relaunched the TMNT franchise in 2014 with a reboot of the New Line pics from the 90s. The film went on to gross $485 million globally with a sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, debuted in 2016.

Paramount announces new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. August 2, 2021

Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon announced today, that they have hired Casey and Emmy-nominated Colin Jost to write a new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) live-action film. Like the past two installments, plot details are being kept under wraps outside of the film revolving around everyone’s favorite pizza-eating, nunchuck-swinging life-sized turtles.

The sewer-dwelling, anthropomorphized turtles are already set to be featured in Nickelodeon’s All-Star Brawl video game, and the network is launching a new animated movie with comedian Seth Rogen executive producing.
