CBS orders comedy pilot based on JumpStart comic strip. February 15, 2023
CBS has recently announced its pilot order for a new comedy series based on the “JumpStart” comic strip. The series is set in Philadelphia and follows Joe, a cop, and his wife Marcy, a nurse, along with Joe’s partner, Crunchy. Joe and Marcy are modern urban parents with traditional values who are always willing to go the extra mile for their kids. The comic strip first appeared in syndication back in 1989.
The upcoming series is created and executive produced by Wayne Conley. Aaron Kaplan and Melanie Frankel of Kapital Entertainment also executive produce the series, alongside Bridget McMeel of Andrews McMeel Entertainment and Wendi Trilling of TrillTV. The show’s co-executive producer is Robb Armstrong, the original creator of “JumpStart.” CBS Studios will produce the series.
This is not the first time that a TV adaptation of “JumpStart” has been in development. A live-action version of the comic was announced back in 2014 with 20th Century Fox. This new adaptation was first reported to be in development at CBS in June 2022.
Wayne Conley is known for his work on Peacock’s “The Best Man: The Final Chapters,” as well as shows such as “Queen Sugar,” “Delilah,” “Greenleaf,” and “White Famous.” He got his start writing for Nickelodeon’s “All That” and “Kenan & Kel.”
This new series is only the second comedy pilot order that CBS has made this season, with the other being an untitled multi-cam series starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.
