Jurassic World: Dominion is directed by Colin Trevorrow, who wrote the screenplay with Emily Carmichael, based on a story by Trevorrow and his writing partner, Derek Connolly. It is the sequel to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, and the third film in the Jurassic World trilogy. It has a budget of $165 million and is being shot under the working title Arcadia, which is the name of the ship that transported dinosaurs to the U.S. mainland in the previous film.

As with its predecessors, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce the film, with Colin Trevorrow and Jurassic Park (1993) director Steven Spielberg acting as executive producers. The film stars an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Daniella Pineda, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Omar Sy, Jake Johnson, and BD Wong reprising their roles from previous films in the franchise, and they are joined by Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, Campbell Scott, and DeWanda Wise.

Production began on February 19, 2020 with a drone unit used to film aerial scenes at Cathedral Grove on Canada’s Vancouver Island. Principal photography began on February 24, 2020, and the film’s title was announced the following day as Jurassic World: Dominion.

Later in March 2020, production moved to England’s Hawley Common, where parts of the previous film were shot. Other filming locations in England would include Pinewood Studios, where the previous film was shot. Other filming locations would include the country of Malta and its capital city Valletta.

On March 13, 2020, production was put on hiatus as a safety precaution due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming resumed on July 6, 2020..

After filming concluded, Trevorrow worked on the film in a barn behind his U.K. house that had been converted into a post-production facility. The film’s release had previously been delayed by a year due to the pandemic, and this allowed Trevorrow time to work on visual effects, sound mixing, and scoring as separate processes, unlike most films.

In an interview with Empire, director Colin Trevorrow was asked about a still from the movie that Empire published. In the still, we see Chris Pratt being chased by a new type of dinosaur – a “Atrociraptor”. Trevorrow explained how the Atrociraptor differed from the Velociraptor.

“Where the Velociraptor is a little bit more of a stealth hunter, the Atrociraptors are a bit more brutish. These things will just come at you. And in this particular case, they’ve picked his scent, and they’re not going to stop until he’s dead. They’re pretty brutal. They’re pretty vicious.”
