Spate of unusual UFO sightings reported around New Mexico over span of few weeks

As winter kicked into full force, New Mexico residents have been treated to a spate of UFO sightings as several residents reported seeing spectacular glowing orbs flying over the Land of Enchantment.   Four separate incidents, all with photographic evidence, were reported over the span of a few weeks (late 2014/early 2015).  One incident was solved – the other three remain unknown.

The sightings began a few weeks ago when U.S. military personnel filed an incident with NUFORC reporting a series of unusual orbs above a military installation in New Mexico (the name of the military installation was not disclosed in the report). Included with the report were three photos taken with military night-vision cameras. According to one witness (edited for clarity):

“Three of us were on ECP guard duty; our shift was from 1600-2330. Around approximately 2100 we saw one light appear then another, then one more, in a line formation like this . . .  They were white with a red tint.

The three of us were in a gun truck. One guy up on the gun, one passenger, and I was in the driver’s seat. I tried getting a picture [with a normal camera], but it just wouldn’t take very good (unlike my two buddies’ who used NVG’s night vision goggles). So I got out to get a better view for a picture and in no longer than 20 seconds, they all vanished. They never moved; not once.  Aircraft flew right through our line of sight, and they were just there, east of our position.

While west of us an artillery company was training as well, and they shot up multiple flares for comparison. What we saw were not flares! And the best part is south of our guard station is our CP where our CO & 1st Sergeant witnessed them as well from a slightly different angle. Word got out and my CO asked for me to come by asking me what I saw, so I told him and that’s when he said they saw the same lights.”

The photos submitted with the report captured a series of bright, glowing orbs floating above the desert floor.

Triangular lights above Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico

A few weeks later, on January 15, 2014, a witness captured a similar set of anomalous lights in a photo taken in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico (30 miles north of Albuquerque). According to the witness, he was on a business trip and staying at a Hyatt Regency hotel in Santa Ana Pueblo when around 7:05 PM, he took several pictures of the sky around the hotel. In one picture, a triangular set of lights was unwittingly captured. The witness, a licensed pilot with an instrument rating and former amateur astronomer, did not believe nearby light sources were the cause. In his report to MUFON, he noted:

“There were also no other point light sources in the general area that might have been bright enough to cause reflections in the lens. I have no idea what these lights were but thought it strange enough to report to you.”

Enormous black object hovering above Hatch, New Mexico

The same day, a witness in Hatch, New Mexico (40 miles north of Las Cruces) filed a separate incident with MUFON reporting a huge, black object hovering the sky. According to the witness, he sighted the object around 4:30 PM on January 15, 2015, while driving westbound along I-10. The witness said he continued to monitor the object while driving and at first thought it was a helicopter. Recognizing the enormous size, he then surmised the object was a balloon but noted that it was huge and remained motionless in the sky. Finally, he pulled his car into a gas station and took this picture of the UFO.

Note: a fourth sighting was reported by several witnesses on January 18 but was later identified as an experimental balloon.
