Spider-Man: No Way Home Movie Watch – news and insider info on the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie (December 17, 2021).

Spider-Man: No Way Home

About the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: No Way Home will star Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alfred Molina, Andrew Garfield, Kirsten Dunst, and Jamie Foxx. The movie got off on a rocky start. Sony still owned the license to Spider-Man but beginning with Spider-Man: Homecoming, they brought Marvel Studios in to help. But in summer 2019, talks between both sides broke down over how to proceed. Then in September the two sides came to an agreement on at least one more Spider-Man movie starring Holland.

Filming on Spider-Man: No Way Home was due to begin in Summer 2020 but after the coronavirus pandemic, everything changed. Holland shot another movie, Uncharted, first, in Summer and Fall of 2020, before moving into shooting Spider-Man 3. In April 2020, Spider-Man movie was given a new November 2021 release date, which was then pushed further to December after COVID delayed filming.

We know this sequel will open up the multiverse. Jamie Foxx is playing Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Alfred Molina is returning as Doc Ock from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, and even previous Spider-Men Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are expected to have at least cameos.

Spider-Man: No Way Home earns only a single Oscar nomination – and it wasn’t for Best Picture. February 8, 2022

Only two other comic book adaptations have ever earned an Academy Award nomination for best picture and there were high hopes that Spider-Man: No Way Home would become the third. Alas, it was not to be. Unlike those movies, “No Way Home” failed to earn nominations from any of the top guild awards, and it only earned one other Oscar nomination, for visual effects (as opposed to the 11 total nominations for “Joker” and seven for “Black Panther”).

Spider-Man: No Way Home crosses $1 billion mark at worldwide box office. December 26, 2021

It’s official as smash hit as Spider-Man: No Way Home passes the $1 billion mark in worldwide box office sales. And it’s been out for less than 2 weeks!

Domestically, Spider-Man: No Way Home is still doing well for its second-weekend open. The film brought in $19.6 million on Friday, $31.7 million on Saturday and we are projecting $30.1 million on 4,336 locations and is the 3rd highest Christmas Day gross of all time. Internationally, No Way Home took home $121.4 million which included a $3.5 million dollar opening in Thailand, and the total comes from 61 overseas markets in 32,600+ screens. Spider-Man: No Way Home smashes records with $253 million opening weekend. December 19, 2021

To say Spider-Man: No Way Home surpassed expectations would be a vast understatement. Projected to clear no more than $150 million, the film earned nearly that much on opening day alone. By the end of the weekend, the movie had grossed $253 million in box office earnings. This brings the global total to a staggering $587.2 million.

To put this in perspective, this is the third-largest domestic opening of all time – and it smashed the record during a pandemic! The film also scored the second-highest opening ever and a franchise best for Sony’s Spider-Man series.

Spider-Man: No Way Home holds a 94% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences offering a near bulletproof 99% approval rating.

Reviews from early Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres roll in and yeah, they’re really good. December 14, 2021

Spider-Man: No Way Home premiered to insiders yesterday and official reviews are beginning to pour in, with many offering euphoric praise for the multiverse mash-up. Here’s a sample of what earlier viewers have said:

No Way Home’s extended exercise in franchise-agnostic fan service is at once an ominous precedent for future event movies and an at-times rather poignant gimmick.

AV Club

The finest wall-crawling MCU effort to date.

The Daily Beast

Briskly balancing a dizzying assortment of parts, Marvel’s latest (by way of Sony) looks destined to do what only a spider can — namely, lure vast numbers of fans into its web.

CNN

Returning director Jon Watts… wrangles the unwieldy premise into a consistently entertaining superhero entry, tying up two decades’ of loose ends in the process.

Variety

Easily a film you’ll want to watch again, “No Way Home” is a ride I never wanted to end. It’s a marvel that something this ambitious came together.

Insider

The film is sure to remind audiences why our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man remains one of Marvel’s best, and that is thanks in large part to Tom Holland’s performance as Peter Parker.

CBR

This movie does what the best movies always do: They thrill you and move you and make you want to cheer in a crowded theatre.

Deadline Hollywood

Spider-Man: No Way Home bounces from hilarious to hurt with ease as both the darkest and funniest MCU Spider-Man entry to date.

IGN Movies

Spider-Man: No Way Home lays the groundwork for more adventures to come, even if the very past itself will look very different by the time the credits roll. The road to the closing moments of “No Way Home” — both warm-hearted and heartbreaking — might have hit a few bumps, but the darkness is worth it. After all, when was the last time the third film in a franchise got audiences truly thrilled for what comes next?

IndieWire

I can confidently say #SpiderManNoWayHome is THE BEST live-action Spider-Man movie. A thrilling & emotional end to the “Homecoming” trilogy, but also a smart, fun & exciting tribute to 20 years of Spider-Man movies. Both hilarious & heartbreaking, I honestly loved every second.

Gizmodo

Spider-Man: No Way Home shockingly works by keeping focused on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, front and center. It’s still packed with fan service and pays off nearly 20 years of movies; but most of all it’s funny, fun, and often extremely emotional. Stay spoiler free as long as possible.

Decider

And of course, there’s always that one stick-in-the-mud review…

And yet, despite its flaws, despite the blatant nature of the fan service, it works. As clunkily executed as it can be, fan service doesn’t necessarily need to be a bad thing, especially when it services a larger thematic purpose: grappling with Spider-Man’s legacy.

Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin), Alfred Molina (Doc Ock), and Jamie Foxx (Electro) discuss where their characters pick up in Spider-Man: No Way Home. December 9, 2021

Sony Pictures released a video today of Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin), Alfred Molina (Doc Ock), and Jamie Foxx (Electro) discussing where their villains pick back up in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In the vignette below, we learn that Doc Ock picks up where he left off and that he is “looking for revenge” – and that the potential for viewer “surprise” in the film is expected.

TV Spot changes Doctor Strange quote in a most interesting way. December 3, 2021

The trailer shown on network TV has changed a Doctor Strange line in a most interesting way. The original trailer has the Doctor putting the multiverse glitch solely on Spider-Mans shoulders:

“Ever since you botched that spell where everyone forgets that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, we started getting visitors.”

But the TV version of the trailer change the line to this:

“When I shut that spell down… we started getting visitors.”

Sony has been throwing a lot of red herrings at us but this one hits upon a core tenet in the movie. Let us know what you think about the change in the comments below.

Sony releases character posters for three Spider-Man: No Way Home villains. December 3, 2021

Three new villain-centric character posters have been released by Sony, giving us beautiful renditions of Spider-Man foes – Alfred Molina’s Otto Octavius , Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn, and Jamie Foxx’s Maxwell Dillon.

We can’t help but notice that Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn is wearing his old costume vs. the new one seen in the trailer that was released last month. Indeed, there could be multiple Green Goblins in this film…

Spider-Man: No Way Home sets record for best first day of presales. November 30, 2021

Advance tickets went on sale yesterday at Fandango for Sony’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which opens across theaters on December 1, and in a couple hours, Spidey broke the 2021 record for the America ticketing company’s best first day of presales. The film saw the best advance ticket sales on Fandango since “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.

Did yesterday’s No Way Home trailer reveal multiple Spidey’s? Here are some Easter eggs you may have missed. November 17, 2021

While the debate over whether multiple Spidey’s will appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home is still raging, eagle-eyed fans are suggesting a segment in the trailer leaked a key part of the movie. Notice in the segment where Spider-Man jumps directly at Sandman – Electro and the Lizard seem to be preoccupied with some else – or someone elses. Could the two villains be preoccupied with Spidey’s from another universe?

Fans go a step further and note the lower left-hand side of the screen contains an unusual red and blue blur which some believe may have been an errant Spider-Man variant scrubbed from the trailer in order to misdirect fans. In fact, in the international video versions of this shot, you can clearly see Lizard man’s head snap back after some invisible force strikes him.

And did you catch this little snippet? That’s the Statue of Liberty which is clearly being remodeled – with a Captain America shield held in her arm? Look carefully and you’ll see a large banner portraying some variant of Captain America on the lower right of the scaffolding. The words are unclear – “heaviest avenger”, “newest avenger”?

2021 11 18 7 42 37

And what about this quick shot. The video sequence lasted less than a second and is very blurry but it’s still clear that this is not the same Green Goblin we’ve seen in other sequences. Harry? Ned?

Second Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer opens up a multiverse of villains. November 16, 2021

Marvel today unveiled the second Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer during a live event in Sherman Oaks, California. The trailer featured a smorgasbord of villains including Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, the Green Goblin, and the Lizard, that we learn are released from “every universe” after the botched spell to make everyone forget Spider-Man’s true identity.

Check out the trailer below:

Andrew Garfield strongly insists he is NOT in Spider-Man: No Way Home. November 16, 2021

Andrew Garfield continues to insist he will not play his respective version of Spider-Man in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home film. In an interview on The Today Show, he said:

“Listen, I’m not in the film. I love Spider-Man, I always have, I was so happy to have played the part. I’m so excited to see what they do with the third one, just like you guys are, to be honest. That’s not the diplomatic answer, I really, really mean it. I love Tom Holland, I love director Jon Watts, I love producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, and what they’ve done with those movies and that character. It’s an important character to me. So I’m just really excited to see what happens in the third one, as you guys are.”

Our take? Liar, liar, pants on fire.

New Spider-Man No Way Home poster revealed. November 14, 2021

As a preview to tomorrow’s promised new trailer, Marvel released a new Spider-Man: No Way Home poster today. The new poster is a big change from prior versions – Spider-Man is now joined by Doctor Strange, front and center.

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”

Spoiler? Newly leaked photos from the set confirm what we already knew. November 9, 2021

The Internet virtually exploded overnight as newly leaked Spider-Man: No Way Home photos made the rounds on social media. Two photos were leaked. Whether they are legit or not is up for debate but neither truly reveal anything we didn’t already know. The first photos shows all three Spider-Man, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man joined by the two previous movie Spider-Men, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, standing on a boat deck or dock speaking to someone standing off screen. This rumor has been going on so long, nobody has doubted that all three Spider-Man actors would appear at the same time on screen.

The second photo shows actor Charlie Cox sitting at a table with Maguire. It is presumed he is playing the role of Matt Murdock, the lawyer alter ego of Daredevil. This isn’t particularly newsworthy at the moment as crossover appearances are quite common. How Matt Murdock is involved in No Way Home is in no way foretold by the photo.

Are the photos legit? It’s hard to tell. They are either poorly photoshopped images or pre-production shots in front of a greenscreen. If the later, they clearly haven’t been processed for release. The arrows below point to what appear to be greenscreen artifacts or overlays positioned where the actors body’s intersect the protective railing. Or they could simply be padding on the rails. The circle shows what some have suggested is the hand of an extra. Or it could just be a shadow.

Tom Hollands confirms Jamie Foxx’s return as Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home. November 9, 2021

It was pretty certain Electro was making an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Jamie Foxx had announced he would return as a villain before production began, then quickly backtracked on his statement. Lightning in a promotional poster also hinted at his appearance. But in a chat with Total Film Magazine, Tom Holland name-dropped Jamie Foxx specifically:

“Everyone puts their trousers on in the same way in the morning. It was interesting having those guys come in because they have certain ownership over Spider-Man in their own way, and…I’m talking about Alfred and Jamie and those guys.”

We’re guessing those “other guys” are Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, reprising their roles as their version of Spider-Man.

Total Film revealed new still of the bridge battle between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus. November 9, 2021

Total Film released a new still today. The still shows Spider-Man in what appears to be a bridge construction zone (yep, hints at a battle on a unstable bridge full of cars) with Doc Ock appearing to stand tall above Spidey in the distance. Details on the plot are still slim though. This looks to be the bridge over the Hudson River which, as you may recall, is where Doc Ock nearly died.

New Spider-Man: No Way Home promotional poster released today. November 8, 2021

Sony released a new Spider-Man: No Way Home promotional poster today. The shows Spider-Man surrounded by Doc Ock’s tentacles while if you look carefully, you’ll see in the background there’s an image of the Green Goblin. The bolt of lightning could be a nod to Jamie Foxx’s Electro while the cloud of what looks to be sand could be the reappearance of Spider-Man 3’s Sandman.

Empire magazine releases new photo of Spider-Man running from Molina. October 23, 2021

Empire magazine released a couple of new photos today including one of Holland running from Molina on what appears to be a freeway overpass. The CGI looks a little rough so we can presume it’s an early copy.

Aside from Doc Ock, it’s believed that other villains, such as Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman, and Jamie Foxx’s Electro will make appearances in the film too.

Finally! Trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home released. August 18, 2021

The wait finally ended, as one day after the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home was leaked, Sony Pictures officially released it to the public. Thus far, we know that something has gone wrong with a spell Doctor Strange casts to make people forget that Peter and Spider-Man are one and the same. As a result, the entire MCU multiverse is impacted.

In the official trailer, we see Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and some lightning strikes to tease the arrival of Jamie Foxx’s Electro. And, yes!!!, a familiar-looking pumpkin bomb landing on the bridge confirms that Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin will make an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home!

It is looking more and more like No Way Home will draw from the One More Day comic book storyline. Published in 2007, “One More Day” featured a Peter Parker that made a deal with Mephisto in order to save the life of Aunt May. Of course, you don’t mess with MCU time without consequences.

Marvel head Kevin Feige is asked about all the secrecy surrounding Spider-Man: No Way Home. Secrecy? What secrecy? August 19, 2021

With Spider-Man: No Way Home’s release just around the corner, we still have no trailer for the film. In fact, we have little to no news at all. Marvel head Kevin Feige was recently asked why there was so much secrecy surrounding this particular movie.

“Honestly, I’ve seen the fervor online. It has not necessarily occurred to me that it is any more or less secret than any of our other projects. I think all of our projects… we want to preserve surprises. That’s all the secrecy is for.”

So, there you have it. The answer to why Marvel refused to release any information about Spider-Man: No Way Home is… denial.

Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin) make an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home? August 13, 2021

We still think there’s a good chance Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin will make an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But while recently asked about his involvement in the film, Dafoe was a bit apprehensive.

“I got lots of stuff happening now. And, you know, I always feel like when a film comes out, that’s when it’s time to talk about it.”

While Dafoe didn’t confirm he’s appearing in No Way Home – he didn’t outright deny it either.

More Spider-Man: No Way Home reveals from merch. August 10, 2021

New merch that came out today spills a few more details about the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home film. First up, we have promo art that strongly hints at Spider-Man being imbued with magical powers. This would not be surprising given Doctor Strange’s critical role in the storyline.

And then we have this promo art featuring “We Believe Mysterio”. Since Mysterio set Spider-Man up as the bad guy at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, this too isn’t surprising.

New leaked photos from the Spider-Man: No Way Home set show us… Wait, WTF is going on here… August 2, 2021

Check out this newly leaked photo from the set of Spider-Man: No Way Home. There are of course, the obvious reasons to get excited. We see Spider-Man waving across the street to Doctor Strange who appears to be standing outside the Sanctum Santorum. But look closer. How much weirdness can they fit into a single photograph?

We have, I don’t know, a picture of a pizza delivery guy pinned underneath a gang support. The same guy appears on the manhole cover. A face pasted on the blue screen wall and a character we’re not sure who it is. And there’s the weird head floating in the tree. But most importantly – right in plain sight – is the FEAST truck!

F.E.A.S.T. or Food, Emergency Aid, Shelter, and Training was a front organization for the supervillain Mister Negative (Martin Li) and his gang, the Inner Demons. In the comic book storyline, Li worked in the fake F.E.A.S.T. soup kitchen where May Parker also volunteered. So yeah, here comes Mister Negative!

And BTW, the Batcycle crashed – again. This time rumors tell us it crashed into a stunt car today and sustained some damage.

Loki finale allows the MCU multiverse to burst wide open. Multiple Spidey’s in one movie? Looks that way (7/15/2021)

No sooner had we heard rumors that Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield were returning to the screen in Spider-Man: No Way Home, then Loki blows the doors off the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the death of He Who Remains, the MCU universe is fractured which means – anything is possible. And despite what Garfield and Holland say, we think it’s gonna happen. Emma Stone? Kirsten Dunst? Maybe! For certain, Spider-Man “No way home” and “Multiverse of Madness” make much more sense now.

Rumor mill: Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield are returning to the big screen as their respective Peter Parkers (7/12/2021).

It’s a juicy rumor that seems to be gaining momentum. Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be returning to the big screen as their respective Peter Parkers. In fact, it’s rumored that two former Spider-Man stars would not only return in Spider-Man: No Way Home but would allegedly also take on roles as co-leads alongside Tom Holland. There’s no source for the rumor so take it for what it is.

Hasbro: Marvel Legends Spider-Man: No Way Home figures confirm what we already figured out about Spider-Man’s new costume. (7/2/21)

Hasbro revealed their Marvel Legends No Way Home figures today, pretty much confirming the new look for Spider-Man. Gold is in, baby! But wait, what about the black suit!?!

Check out the Hasbro figures below.

New Spider-Man: No Way Home leak gives us a better glimpse at Spider-Man’s new suit. (7/2/21)

We now know Alfred Molina will be returning as Doctor Octopus (thanks for the spoiler, Al) and are pretty sure Jamie Foxx will return as Electro. But little is known about the movie’s plot – or Spider-Man’s new attire. But then this showed up on the Funko website:

It certainly hints that a new gold suit of some sort comes into play somewhere in the movie. Then no sooner than we spotted the Funko list, this image leaks on Twitter:

Looks pretty close to the Spider-Man suit spotted on the Lego box below, eh?

Did LEGO just reveal Tom Holland’s new Spider-Man suit? (7/1/21)

Here at Geek Slop, we’re used to “embargoed” products, products that we purchase for resale, months before the movie is released, that give us no indication about what the product will look like. Revealing the look of something like, Tom Holland’s new Spider-Man suit, would be a big spoiler. But LEGO may have done just that with their new Spider-Man at the Sanctum Workshop model. Check out the box below.

Spider-Man No Way Home LEGO playset reveals Spider-Man's suit from Spider-Man: No Way Home

The box of the 355-piece LEGO set, shows Spider-Man, MJ, Doctor Strange, and Wong battling some sort of insect-like creature. But take a look at the promo in the top righthand corner. Is that Spider-Man’s new suit?

Spider-Man No Way Home LEGO playset reveals Spider-Man's suit from Spider-Man: No Way Home

The suit looks similar to the one worn at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home with a little Iron-Man style thrown in. Maybe it’s just a bad rendition of the old suit. But, maybe not. Hopefully we’ll get a trailer soon that confirms whether LEGO blew it or not.

Alfred Molina reveals Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man: No Way Home

Alfred Molina slipped up in an interview with Variety today, revealing his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Molina noted that when he spoke with director Jon Watts, the filmmaker told him that Doc Ock’s story will continue from “that moment” in the river, i.e. when it looked like Ock was sinking to his death after stopping his fusion reactor from destroying New York City. When Molina pointed out that his character was supposed to have died in Spider-Man 2, Watts simply said, “In this universe, no one really dies.”

Well, okay then. We can presume Molina’s run in the MCU has just ended.
