Officials at O’Hare International Airport have a very unusual package that is being held in limbo. The package was shipped from Rome, Italy as cargo on a Lufthansa Airlines flight to Chicago and was held up by U.S. Customs officials due to “improper paperwork”. The package was X-Rayed and found to contain eighteen severed human heads. Local news outlets are reporting that the heads are “still covered in skin” (thanks for the visual) meaning they are not that old.
Brian Bell, a spokesman with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, told the Chicago Tribune:
“Everybody here is like ‘Oh my gosh, you got a box full of heads’ and everybody thinks that it’s unheard of.”
And if all of this is freaking you out, we’ll remind you that in June of 2010, a Southwest Airlines employee nearly keeled over after opening a package destined for Fort Worth that was found to contain between 40 and 60 human heads.
As for the Rome heads, authorities say that they are currently in the process of verifying that the heads have proper documentation. It is suspected they were shipped to Rome for research and are returning to the United States for proper disposal.
